Our Nature Awards
Recognising the businesses nurturing Ireland’s wild biodiversity, and improving corporate sustainability.
Dawn Chorus Symphony Award
The most sought after award among bird lovers, and professional ornithologists. This award recognises companies with grounds that have a large variety of breeding and migratory bird species. The dawn chorus hits its peak April/May because we have both our resident and migrant species singing at the same time.
Native Wildflower Haven Award
Publicising grounds blooming with a rustic beauty that only native Irish wildflowers can achieve. This award celebrates grounds that protect our native flowers and give them preference over non-native and invasive or ornamental flowers. This is a truly sustainable action that companies can take to meet their corporate sustainability goals.
This very special award acknowledges companies who protect our food chains by protecting all pollinators. Without pollinators our food chain crashes. Unfortunately Ireland and Europe has seen large declines in insect populations. One landmark study found a 75% insect decrease over a 27 year period; unfortunately trends are not changing. We need pollinators to remain sustainable and meet ESG.
Pollinator Friendly Award

Bat Friendly Business Award
Recognising businesses with foresight [and night-vision] for protecting and growing Ireland's bat community and economy. For example, bat tourism brings in $10 million annually to the state of Texas alone. Bats also save the Irish economy millions each year by preventing crops from being damaged by pests. A gold/silver/bronze award in this category should be worn like a badge of honor, making your company a truly sustainable powerhouse.
Bird of Prey Habitat Award
An award for the rare and wonderful. Ireland was once home to Europe's most majestic birds of prey. Most reintroductions have failed over the years but there are some strongholds. This award recognises grounds that these noble birds can call home. The award also identifies locations for bird enthusiasts to see these magnificent creatures in the wild.

Biodiversity Education
This award recognises schools that encourage and give students time to learn about Irish wildlife and sustainable practices. This can be in theory and through practical guidance. Schools will get recognition of the quality of the programs they are running, and education material used.

A high score in this category is genuinely hard to achieve because we take into consideration, the number of species, the total number of trees and the maturity of the tree.

Frequently asked questions
We don't have large fancy grounds, can we still enter?
Yes, even small businesses in cities do their part for nature. Our biodiversity scoring system is based on your area available for assessment, and takes into consideration where your company is located. To see what tier your company fits into, have a look at our category section.
Do I have to enter every award category?
No you don't. You choose what biodiversity award works for your company. Each award requires it's own ecological assessment which follows a scientific protocol, accredited standard, and guidelines. For example if you want only the pollinator friendly business award, then you pay for just that assessment. All these assessments can contribute to improving your corporate responsibility and environmental, social, governance.
How much does it cost?
Our pricing varies depending on [what factors affect your price]. We offer a variety of options to fit your needs and budget. Please visit our [pricing page/contact us] for more information.
How do I know which award to go for?
If you are unsure what award you are most likely to do well in then don't worry. As part of the service, we can offer a free initial biodiversity consultation (a simple call) to help you. This will give us an idea of what your company has. During the phone-call we can even look at aerial maps of your site to further assess the wider ecological landscape connectivity as this will also guide you with what biodiversity may use your site.
How do I know if our grounds are good enough?
The fact that you are even reading this, means your company is already ahead of the game and cares for nature, so the chances are the grounds are probably good. As part of the service, we can offer a free initial consultation (a simple call) to help you answer this question. If your grounds are not good enough, we can offer free advice on some actions to take which will get you ready for next years assessment roll out.
Can you help us improve what we already have?
Yes absolutely. As part of the nature assessment you will get a set of recommendations based on our findings. There is no pressure, it is your choice whether to implement these actions or not. We can even offer some free, simple biodiversity actions to companies who want to enter next years assessment cycle so that they can ensure they get a higher score and thus get a higher award such as gold or silver.
I don't want to enter the awards, but I want to give business to companies who care for nature, can you help?
Yes absolutely. Our clients are of the same mindset as you. Companies who enter our awards give each other business. For example, our manufacturing clients give their corporate events to our hospitality clients. So, if you advise us on what you want, we can link you up with clients who have taken part in the Irish Nature Awards.
My company has zero green space. Can we do anything?
If your company truly has zero space that can be assessed, then we may still be able to help. We can help you find a green space to create a biodiversity offset. These are limited and subject to availability. We are currently have clients who pay to rent small sections of land and rewild it. For example, a small shop unit on a city street with no space for window boxes can pay to do a larger rewilding project in the countryside. The Irish Nature Awards will source the green space and oversee the works. The credit for all the rewilding will go to the company who is paying for the offset.
